We hope you’ll find answers to your questions here. If not, please get in touch!
- What will I learn during my lesson?
For group classes, the recipes will be advertised in advance. They may change slightly on the day due to availability of ingredients. For private classes, you can choose to cook what you like. Rachel is experienced in a wide range of cuisines, so whether you want to learn how to cook a signature dish, get to grips with specific skills, or work with some key ingredients, she will be delighted to help.
- What does the lesson include?
All our lessons include ingredients, recipes and tuition from a professional chef.
- Where do lessons take place?
The classes take place in a lovely purpose-built teaching kitchen in East Finchley (Northern Line) which can fit 22 people for sushi classes, 12 people for hands on cookery classes, and up to 30 people for cookery demonstrations.
- What equipment do I need to have?
Rachel will provide all equipment, so all you need to do is come along and enjoy the class.
- What should I wear?
It’s best to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy, as well as flat, comfortable shoes. Rachel will provide aprons, so you don’t need to bring your own.
- How much time should I allow for my lesson?
Lesson times vary depending on what we’re making and the group size. Most classes last approximately 2.5-3.5 hours, although it can be hard to say exactly when classes will finish. Depending on what the class is, it usually includes eating the food you’ve made – after all that cooking you probably deserve a nice meal.
- What happens if I need to cancel or rearrange my lesson?
Once you have confirmed the date for the lesson, we will ask you to pay a deposit for group classes, or the full amount for small group or public classes. If you need to re-schedule or cancel, we will always do our best to help. If you cancel more than 7 days in advance of the date booked, we will give you a partial refund, or the option to book another date. If you need to cancel in the week before the class, the deposit will always be non-refundable, as we will have already bought ingredients and other equipment for your class.
- How do I book?
There are a number of classes that you can book yourself onto using Eventbrite. Have a look on the ‘What’s On’ page in the menu bar above for details and bookings.
For private classes, the best way to book is to fill out the enquiry form by clicking the ‘enquire now’ button at the top of this page. We will get back to you as soon possible
- I’m only available during the day/at weekends/in the evening. Is that ok?
That’s fine. Rachel’s Kitchen lessons can be booked for whenever is convenient for you.
- Can I buy a gift voucher?
Yes, gift vouchers make really lovely presents. Click the link here to find out more. We can email gift vouchers to you or to the recipient, and they are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.
You can also include an apron with the voucher as an extra special gift.
- Where do you buy your food from?
We care passionately about good quality food. All eggs are free range, fish is sustainably sourced and from the local fishmonger, meat is usually organic, fruit and vegetables are from our friendly local grocer, and all food is sourced carefully and made with love.
Please let us know if you’d like details of our suppliers.
- What about allergies or dietary requirements?
Please let us know if there’s anything we need to be aware of, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
